What Jesus Did! - Lost My Shirt

If a person wants to sue you in court and take your shirt, then let him have your coat too.
- Matthew 5:40 (ERV)

THOUGHT:

We have basic rights, at least that's the assumption many of us operate under as human beings. We get very angry when those basic rights are compromised. Jesus, however, is more concerned that we be redemptively right than he is with our insisting that our rights are honored in every situation here on earth.

His goal is to redeem others through us, not to get even with them. Jesus' orientation toward personal rights should not surprise us. He gave up all of his rights and left heaven to redeem us! (Phil. 2:5-11) On the other hand, Jesus staunchly defended the rights of others when those in charge tried to take those rights away from them. Why? Jesus' primary concern was to redeem and bless all people. He now wants us to do the same. The goal of our behavior is to be redemptive to others whether it is our rights or theirs that have been violated!

PRAYER:
Almighty and compassionate Father, give me less passion for my own rights and greater passion to defend the rights of others who are being abused and exploited. Give me a sensitive heart to see beyond the things done to me that are wrong so that I may see the wrong in the hearts of others and influence them to come closer to you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Related Scriptures:

When one of you has something against another person, why do you go to {the judges in the law courts}? Those people are not right with God. So why do you let those people decide who is right? You should be ashamed! Why don't you let God's people decide who is right? Surely you know that God's people will judge the world. So if you will judge the world, then surely you are able to judge small things {like this}. You know that in the future we will judge angels.

So surely we can judge things in this life. So if you have those disagreements that must be judged, why do you take those things to people who are not part of the church? Those people mean nothing to the church. I say this to shame you. Surely there is some person in your group wise enough to judge a complaint between two brothers (believers)!

But now one brother goes to court against another brother. You let men that are not believers judge their case! The lawsuits that you have against each other show that you are already defeated. It would be better for you to let someone do wrong against you! It would be better for you to let someone cheat you! But you yourselves do wrong and cheat! And you do this to other believers {in Christ}! - 1 Corinthians 6:1-8

But you are chosen people. You are the King's priests. You are a holy nation of people. You are people who belong to God. God chose you to tell about the wonderful things he has done. He called (brought) you out of darkness (sin) into his wonderful light. - 1 Peter 2:9

But if you are punished for doing wrong, there is no reason to praise you for bearing that punishment. But if you suffer for doing good, and you are patient, then that pleases God. That is what you were called to do. Christ gave you an example to follow. You should do the same as he did. {You should be patient when you suffer,} because Christ suffered for you. - 1 Peter 2:20-21

Ai primit/oferit astazi mărţişoare? :)

Pentru inceput - o scurta calatorie in timp sa observam originile si semnificatiile acestui asa numit : "mărţişor":

iar pe alta scria;
"O scoica de aur e inima mea,
Si perla iubirii se afla in ea,
Scoica se sparge de stancile reci,
Insa iubirea ramane in veci."......aici are dreptate...conform: 1 Corinteni 13:8 Dragostea nu va pieri niciodata.

Domnul cu voi! :)

Din El , prin El si pentru El,
Ana-Maria

What Jesus Did! - Redeeming Insult

"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, don't stand against an evil person. If someone hits you on the right cheek, then turn and let him hit the other cheek too. - Matthew 5:38-39 (ERV)

THOUGHT:
Jesus' words draw us to the values of our Heavenly Father. Rather than passively accepting evil, we are to overcome evil with good. We are to work redemption in the face of mistreatment like the suffering servant in Isaiah who suffers, serves, and redeems in the face of attack and ridicule. Jesus reminds us that we are to redeem rather than to try to get even. A slap on the cheek in Jesus' day was more a social insult than a physical injury. In our day, we seldom slap someone on the cheek to embarrass or humiliate that person. Instead, we shoot them a "zinger," cut them down sarcastically, or tell a joke at their expense. This is out of bounds for believers. Such talk does not accomplish the redemption God has called us to share with others.

PRAYER:
Holy and patient Father, please strengthen me so that I will look for ways to redeem those who shame and humiliate me. I know that vengeance will only poison my heart and alienate me from the insulting party. Give me grace to react with kindness even toward those who are unkind to me. In the name of the one who did not rebuke his accusers I pray. Amen.

Related Scriptures:
Don't let evil defeat you. You should defeat evil by doing good. - Romans 12:21

The Lord knows everything, even what happens in the place of death. So surely the Lord will know what happens in the hearts and minds of people. - Proverbs 15:11

When you talk, don't say any bad things. But say things that people need--things that will help other people become stronger. Then the things you say will help the people who listen to you. And don't make the Holy Spirit sad. The Spirit is God's proof that you belong to God. God gave you that Spirit to show that God will make you free at the right time.

Never be bitter or angry or mad. Never shout angrily or say things to hurt other people. Never do anything evil. Be kind and loving to each other. Forgive each other the same as God forgave you in Christ. - Ephesians 4:29-32

**********************************************************

...cel putin pe mine m-au shocat...mai ales cuvintele din Efeseni..."never be...never do...never...". Spor la practica ! :)

...si Isus...a facut asa cum predica!

Cum?

Vreau sa iti gasesti placere in mine. Ceva nu e bine in viata mea. Amin!" Cum si unde sa Il cauti? ...foarte simplu: In Cuvantul LUI: Biblia.

What Jesus Did! - Reliability!

Don't make a vow using the name of the earth, because the earth belongs to God. Don't make a vow using the name of Jerusalem, because that is the city of the great King (God). And don't even say that your own head is proof that you will keep your vow. You cannot make one hair on your head become white or black. Say only 'yes' if you mean yes, and say only 'no' if you mean no. If you must say more than 'yes' or 'no,' it is from the Evil One (the devil). - Matthew 5:35-37 (ERV)

THOUGHT:

Don't break your word! In the Kingdom Family of God, the truth is insured by our integrity, not by something artificial outside us. We shouldn't have to swear to insure our word! But Jesus carries it one step further when he tells us: Don't swear on an oath to guarantee your word. Let the truthfulness of your speech be the standard mode in which you live, not something that has to reach out and grab for reliability in something external.

PRAYER:

Almighty and dependable God, I want to be a person of integrity. I want my words to be true. I want people to be able to trust my word when I give them my word. Please give me strength and courage to not exaggerate, lie, break my word, or stretch the truth. As your child, blessed by the many promises you have kept, I want to bless others by keeping my word. In Jesus' holy name I pray. Amen.

Related Scriptures:

My brothers and sisters, it is very important that you not use an oath when you make a promise. Don't use the name of heaven, earth, or anything else to prove what you say. When you mean yes, say only "yes." When you mean no, say only "no." Do this so that you will not be judged guilty. - James 5:12

Many people call a person"friend." But it is really hard to find a person that can really be trusted. - Proverbs 20:6

No! We will speak the truth with love. We will grow to be like Christ in every way. Christ is the head {and we are the body}. - Ephesians 4:15
