De ce să plângi?


De ce să plângi nemângâiat
Ce poţi să pierzi în orice vreme
De ce n-asculţi un gând curat
Cât este încă să te cheme?
Nu-i fericire în plăceri
Dar poate fi şi-n suferinţă
Nu-i pace-n lume nicăieri
Dar e-n Hristos cu prisosinţă.
Nu-i bucurie în păcat,
Nu crede-n cine te-amăgeşte
Numai Hristos e-adevărat
Şi doar ce El făgăduieşte.
Ia-ţi ochii de la tot ce-i jos
Şi ieşi din a-ntristării ape
Comoara veşnică-i Hristos
Câştigă-L până-ţi este-aproape.
De haru-ndemnului preasfânt
Te lasă-atras cu bucurie
Spre Cel al cărui crezământ
Te va-nsoţi pe veşnicie.
De-asculţi acest îndemn curat

Beyond Mourning - Matthew 5:4

What great blessings there are for the people that are sad now! God will comfort them. (ERV)

Key Thought
Paul told Christians in Rome, "Weep with those who weep." (Rom. 12:15) Disciples face sadness for many reasons. Discipleship is not about always being happy. It's about following the path of Jesus who was "a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief." (Isa. 53:3) He surrendered his rights to bless others. He surrendered his life to forgive the very ones crucifying him. He saw through the facades of his culture and felt the real needs of people whether they were ill, possessed, or simply blind to the truth. To be a Christian -- a disciple of Jesus -- means to care about people, their problems, and to "weep with those who weep." But such mourning means comfort. Our sufferings, hardships, and struggles will melt away in the eternal light of God's presence and grace. Our heartbreak for those broken in our world will be replaced with rejoicing when many we have loved join us at God's side eternally. Those who mourn, who are deeply sad, they will be comforted!

Today's Prayer
O God of all comfort, thank You for never abandoning me in the dark hours of grief and pain. Thank You for listening to my complaints and heartbreak when times are tough. Thank You for loving and not turning away. I believe, dear Father, that all comfort comes from and is found in You! So I ask that You help me see others in pain, that I might share in bringing them your comfort. In Jesus' name. Amen.

In Need of God - Matthew 5:3

"What great blessings there are for the people that {know they} have spiritual needs! The kingdom of heaven belongs to them. (ERV)

Key Thought
The Kingdom family is made up of people who know they have deep spiritual needs. When we come into the presence of God, we are awed into a profound sense of humility in his presence as well as a deep conviction of our lack of holiness and character before his majesty. While we deeply want to be like our Father, we recognize that our greatest sacrifice and efforts to live Godly lives can not make us worthy to approach God. Yet God urges us to come to him. So we come, but with humility and thanksgiving, knowing that it is only by his grace and Jesus' gift that we can come.

Today's Prayer
Holy and majestic God, I come to You, unworthy to even speak in Your presence, yet You graciously welcome me as your child. Thank You for the many ways You have blessed me and filled my life with joy, meaning, and hope. All that I have that is good has come because of Your blessing. Your strength and mercy have given me the ability to face the difficulties and tragedies of my life. My hopes and dreams are in your hands. Thank you for caring for me. In the precious name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

A Family Address - Matthew 5:1-2

Jesus saw the many people that were there. So Jesus went up on a hill and sat down. His followers came to him. Jesus taught the people. He said: (ERV)

Key Thought
A certain characteristic can define a family. Many members of the family can be distinguished by this special characteristic. It may be a physically prominent feature. It may be a phrase or a way of saying things. It may be certain traditions. It may be a similar nervous tic. The Sermon on the Mount (which begins with the next few verses) is about the Kingdom Family of God. Those who live in it -- or better yet -- live it, share a common character that shows that the Father in Heaven reigns over their hearts. Those who hear the Sermon on the Mount are the crowds, but those who listen, those who are defined by it, are the disciples. They are the ones who put into practice the ethic and character of Jesus, not because it is some law they must keep, but because it reflects the character of a Father whom they love.

Today's Prayer
O gracious and Almighty God, thank you for bringing me into your family. May my life reflect the light of your glory and the character of your holiness. I want your righteousness to be the dominant feature in my life, so I come and sit at the feet of Jesus to learn how to live in a way that honors and reflects you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
